What is National Night Out?

It's America's Night Out Against Crime!

The "28^th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Although there are other Texas agencies who have opted to move their National night Out celebration to October, the City of Cedar Park has elected to continue celebrating National Night Out with the rest of the nation on the first Tuesday of August 2011. Cedar Park feels strongly that we will have a more successful event if we stay with the established August date.

We cordially invite you and your community to be a part of our NIGHT OUT team. The City of Cedar Park recieved national recognition in 2010 for it's efforts from National Night Out in Category 3, which is cities with a population between 50,000-99,999.

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 34 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:

block parties
cookouts
visits from local police and sheriff departments
parades
exhibits
flashlight walks
contests
youth programs

NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.
